Facebook Employees Actively Censored Conservative Websites, Even in Defiance of Managers

A series of new leaks from Big Tech giant Facebook has revealed even more bias against conservatives from the company’s employees, even to the point of causing internal debates between employees and upper management, according to the New York Post.

The latest leaks come from message board conversations reviewed by the Post, which showed back-and-forth discussions within Facebook about how to deal with conservative news outlets during last year’s race riots by far-left domestic terrorist organizations such as Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

Some employees expressed their desire to completely remove sites such as Breitbart from Facebook’s “News Tab” feature. When one such employee asked a manager about doing so, the manager responded by pointing out that “we saw drops in trust in CNN 2 years ago,” before rhetorically asking “would we take the same approach for them too?”

Nevertheless, Facebook cracked down much harder on conservative websites over the course of 2020, particularly with regards to the coronavirus-related lockdowns and various health measures, as well as the debates about alleged “police brutality” after the death of George Floyd, who died of a fentanyl overdose while in police custody in Minneapolis. Facebook began actively “striking” certain pages for posting anything that was deemed “misinformation” by so-called “fact-checkers,” although these fact-checkers were overwhelmingly left-wing sources with their own biases.

And the company is preparing for even more bad news to break about the company in the near future.

“We need to steel ourselves for more bad headlines in the coming days, I’m afraid,” said Facebook’s Vice President for Global Affairs Nick Clegg, in an internal memo sent out on Saturday and obtained by Axios. Although another whistleblower, Frances Haugen, currently holds more information on the company, an embargo had been negotiated to prevent her from releasing anymore than she had already exposed before and during her testimony before Congress; however, the latest leaks came from an entirely new whistleblower on Friday.

The new leaker spoke to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), claiming that Facebook prioritized the spread of alleged “misinformation” and “hate speech,” in order to maintain its profits. The anonymous whistleblower first told the SEC back in 2017 that Facebook executives were initially reluctant to censor President Donald Trump and his allies due to fear of political blowback.

Specifically, the whistleblower cited an alleged conversation with Facebook communications official Tucker Bounds, who reportedly said that Trump’s rhetoric was a “flash in the pan” and that even though “some legislators will get pissy,” Facebook would make up for the potential political fallout by “printing money in the basement.”

The new leaks represent the latest in an ongoing trend of Facebook insiders, with clear left-wing biases, expressing their beliefs that the tech giant is not doing enough to censor conservatives. Haugen expressed similar sentiments during her interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” as well as her testimony before Congress. Haugen also accused Facebook of failing to act against drug cartels and human trafficking operations that were using its website.

“There are no similarly powerful companies that are as unilaterally controlled,” she said to Congress. “The buck stops with Mark [Zuckerberg]. There is no one currently holding Mark accountable but himself. As long as Facebook is operating in the dark, it is accountable to no one and it will continue to make choices that go against the common good.”
